Checks Before Operation

• Check that the cable and hook are not worn or
damaged. Check that the periodic inspection and
maintenance have been done at the recommended
operating hours. (See Figure 15, Maintenance
Schedule.)
• Check lever adjustment.

Checks During Operation

• Check FREESPOOL drag adjustment.
The Troubleshooting Chart at the end of this subsection
can be used by the operator to identify a problem with
the winch operation. A trained service person is needed
for additional troubleshooting and repair that requires
disassembly of parts of the winch.
Operating Procedures
When a winch is in FREESPOOL operation, the
FREESPOOL control lever controls a sliding sleeve to
disengage the drum from the gear train (see Figure 23),
so the wire rope can be pulled from the winch by hand. The

FREESPOOL control lever has two positions: NORMAL
OPERATION and FREESPOOL.
