7 Troubleshooting and Repair

Several issues that may arise with Bastian Solutions conveyor can be corrected with minimal field repairs.
Bastian Solutions encourages using the following troubleshooting techniques shown in Table 1 before
contacting your Bastian Solutions representative. The troubleshooting techniques provided are the same
operations followed by our field service engineers. To swiftly address any issues on site, Bastian
Solutions asks that any issues that arise with the equipment be recorded in a log, with the mark number,
description of the issue, and steps that were taken to resolve the issue.

CAUSE
Wobble at the back of the
motor is < 0.25".
Wobble at the back of the
motor is > 0.25".
Loud "hum" from the motor.
Scraping sounds.
The belt is rubbing against
a frame component.
The belt seems to be worn
out.
The bed sections are not
square.
The tail pulleys are not
square to the frame.
The take-up pulley is not
square.
Belt tracking is very
sensitive.

ACTION
This movement in the motor is acceptable.
There is no physical damage to the conveyor
section.
The drive pulley shaft is bent out of tolerance.
Replace the drive pulley shaft.
The motor is not wired to the VFD correctly.
Verify the wiring of the motor.
The bearing shields have been displaced
during installation/maintenance. Re-adjust
bearing shield, remove bearing shield, or
order replacement bearing (based on severity
of sound and product application).
The belt is not tracking properly and is
rubbing against a frame component. Re-track
belt.
There is a physical interference between
moving parts. Check for location of
interference and adjust part accordingly.
Re-track and re-tension the belt.
Replace the belt. Re-track and re-tension the
replacement (new) belt.
Adjust the bed sections for squareness and
straightness. Use turnbuckles if required.
Adjust the tail pulleys.
Adjust the take-up pulley. Ensure the belt
tension is still appropriate for application.
Check the orientation of the drive section.
This is a common issue if the drive section is
installed backwards and run in reverse.
If the AC section is small in length, this is an
inherent issue of the specification. Contact
Bastian Solutions support for further
assistance.
