6.10 AC Motor Replacement

The following instructions outline the AC motor replacement procedure.
1. Ensure that the power to the AC motor is switched off. Bastian Solutions recommends using
Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for this operation.
2. Remove the cap from the end of the AC motor gearbox. Remove the 7/16" hex head cap screw
and the 3/8" retaining washer from the shaft end of the AC motor gearbox.
3. Remove the M8 shoulder bolt and nylock nut holding the torque arm to the motor.
4. Slide the AC motor and gearbox off the driveshaft. Remove the machine key from the drive shaft.
Figure 25 illustrates an exploded view of the AC motor replacement for a 1 HP drive section.
Bastian Solutions highly recommends using a lift table or equivalent equipment to
remove the motor from the drive section. Improper handling of the motor can cause
damage and increase risk of injury.
5. Install the machine key on to the drive shaft.
6. Slide the replacement (new) motor onto the driveshaft.
Keep the replacement (new) motor orientation the same as that of the old motor.
Incorrect orientation of the motor can cause failure of the seals in the gearbox.
7. Install the torque arm on to the teardrop sub assembly using the M8 shoulder bolt and nylock hex
nut. The torque requirement for the M8 shoulder bolt and nylock hex nut is 20 ft-lb.
8. Install the 7/16" hex head cap screw and the 3/8" retaining washer to shaft end of the AC motor
gearbox. The torque requirement for the 7/16" hex head cap screw is 48 ft-lb.

6.11 AC Belt Replacement

The following instructions outline the AC motor replacement procedure.
1. Ensure that the power to the AC motor is switched off. Bastian Solutions recommends using
Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for this operation.
2. Manually move the belt to where the belt splice is easily accessible.
3. Mark/measure the position of the tensioner rods on the drive section of the conveyor.
4. Loosen the take-up equally on both sides of the conveyor. This relaxes the belt tension across
the conveyor. To loosen the take-up pulley, move the take-up bearings towards the upstream
side of the conveyor.
5. Remove the belt splice pin from the splice.
Prior to removing the belt splice pin, ensure that you have access to a new splice pin.
The belt splice pin is a consumable part and will require replacement if the splice is
removed.
6. Remove the belt from the conveyor.
7. Install the new belt and route the belt through the conveyor. Splice the ends of the belt. Refer to
section 5.3 for detailed information on belt installation.
8. Re-track and re-tension the belt. Refer to section 5.4 for further information.
