6.7 Snub Roller Replacement

The following instructions outline the BSBAC snub roller replacement procedure.
1. Ensure that the power to the AC motor is switched off. Bastian Solutions recommends using
Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for this operation.
2. Mark/measure the position of the tensioner rods on the drive section of the conveyor.
3. Loosen the take-up equally on both sides of the conveyor. This relaxes the belt tension across
the conveyor. To loosen the take-up pulley, move the take-up bearings towards the upstream
side of the conveyor.
4. Remove the (2) 3/8" carriage bolt and serrated flange nut of the snub roller bracket on each side.
5. Remove the bracket from the side frame. Figure 34 illustrates this step.
6. The snub roller has a spring-loaded hex shaft. Using a punch or similar tool, push the hex of the
snub roller into the side frame. Reach under the side frame and pull the roller down and out of the
frame.
7. Install the replacement (new) snub roller into the side frame and push the hex into the roller. Push
up the snub roller into the frame and line up the hex with the slot. The hex should pop out through
the slot.
8. Install the snub roller bracket on both sides. Re-install the hardware to the frame. Finger-tighten
the hardware to position the take-up frame.
9. Re-track and re-tension the belt. Refer to section 5.4 for further information. Ensure to torque the
hardware at the end of this step. The torque requirements for the carriage bolts and serrated
flange nuts is 31 ft-lb.
