Installation Requirements

The following is a review of power, cable, and ground requirements for the access control system.
Power
Each access control unit requires two dedicated Class 2 transformers. The following transformers are
acceptable:
16V 40VA transformer
16.5V 37VA transformer
Do not mount the transformers inside the ACU metal enclosure.
Any deviation from a specified transformer or the use of a single transformer to power multiple access control
units will cause faulty system operation. All warranties are voided if non CLASS 2 transformers or incorrect
voltages are used.
Standby batteries with their duration times for access control and reader power are listed on page 19.
Important
The power supply included is for the exclusive use of the access control unit and the readers. Do not use it
to power external devices such as door strikes or magnetic locks.
Electrical Precautions
Be sure that all circuit breakers powering the system are switched off before commencing installation or
modifying wiring connections. Do not apply power before the installation is completed otherwise the equipment
may be damaged. Ensure all enclosures are connected to earth grounds for proper and safe system operation.
Tools
We recommend having the following tools on hand to install the access control system:
Digital Voltmeter
Wire Cutters & Needle Nose Pliers
Soldering Iron & Tape
Set of Screwdrivers
Drill & Drill Bits
Laptop Computer (optional)
