    Introduction Introduction This document describes tasks that must be completed or coordinated by the administrator of the Canon imagePRESS Server B5000/B4000 before it is ready for use. This document assumes that the imagePRESS Server has been unpacked from its shipping container and that all required cables are connected from the imagePRESS Server to the network, a power source, and the printer, and that the printer is operational.

Note: To ensure proper communication between the printer and the imagePRESS Server, make sure that the printer IP settings are configured for DHCP.
  • Page 13 Configuration and Setup System requirements Fiery passwords Use Configure to manage passwords. You can set passwords for users in Configure > User Accounts. You can set passwords for the Administrator (default user in the Administrators group) and Operator (default user in the Operators group) in Configure > Security. You can also set a password for the Administrator during initial setup with the Fiery Setup Wizard.

    Configuration and Setup System requirements All published print connections are constantly checked for the presence of jobs. The Print queue and Direct Connection give users more direct access to the imagePRESS Server than the Hold queue. Therefore, do not publish the Print queue and the Direct Connection in environments where maximum control is required.

    Configuration and Setup System requirements LDAP authentication When LDAP communication is enabled to retrieve names and other information for people at your site, you can specify the type of authentication. For more information, see Command WorkStation Help. Windows Firewall By default, the Windows Firewall function is disabled on the imagePRESS Server. Do not enable the Windows Firewall on the imagePRESS Server.

The imagePRESS Server requires a valid IP address, subnet mask, and gateway address Type these addresses manually or use the DHCP protocol to assign them dynamically. Make sure the imagePRESS Server name and address are listed in a domain name server (DNS) or host name database used by your system.

    Configuration and Setup Setting up from the printer control panel Tools The Tools tab allows the user to run some system maintenance tools, including: • Setup (requires Administrator privilege) Use to change setup options. • Tray Alignment (requires Administrator or Operator privilege) Use to adjust the placement of text and images on a page so that they are correctly aligned on the sheet of paper and both sides of a duplex sheet have the exact same alignment.

Note: The IP address range 10.255.255.0/24 (the IP addresses from 10.255.255.0 to 10.255.255.255) cannot be used for the imagePRESS Server because this range is used for the local network connected to the printer.

The default name is the same as the server name. Note: After selecting the DNS Setup options and WINS name server settings, wait until the printer stops processing jobs, and then turn off and on the printer for the settings to take effect.

    Configuration and Setup WebTools WebTools WebTools allows you to manage the imagePRESS Server remotely from the Internet or your company’s intranet. Once enabled, you can access WebTools from a network computer. Make sure that the network setup options are correct for your environment. The imagePRESS Server supports Internet or intranet access with WebTools from Windows and Mac OS computers.
