Safety notes

Project design, programming, installation, commissioning
and operation
In its application, the automation system is mainly a component of larger systems
or installations, in which machines are controlled. During the project design,
installation and commissioning of automation systems for controlling machines, it
is therefore important for the machine manufacturer and user to note the safety
specifications of the machine guideline 89/392/EEC. The national accident
prevention regulations such as VBG 4.0 apply in specific applications.
All the safety-related devices of the controlled machine should be designed so that
they can be operated independently of the controller. Emergency stop devices
must continue to function in all operating modes. In the event of an emergency
stop, the supply voltages of all the switching elements triggered by the controller
must be disconnected. A safety relay can be used for this purpose.
Precautions should be taken so that an interrupted control program can be started
again after voltage dips and power failure. No hazardous operating states may
arise, even temporarily. A forced emergency stop must be carried out if necessary.
So that a cable breakage cannot lead to undefined controller states on the signal
side, appropriate safety measures should be taken as regards the hardware and
software for the I/O interface. Devices and operating elements for control
technology should be installed so that they are protected sufficiently against
unauthorised use.

Service and maintenance

If measuring or testing is required on the active device, the definitions and
instructions of the accident prevention regulation VBG 4.0 must be noted. An
appropriate electrical tool should be used.
Repairs to controller components may only be carried out by authorised repair
sites. Unauthorised opening and incorrect handling or repairs can lead to injury or
damage.
Before opening the device, the connection to the supply system must always be
isolated (remove the mains plug or open the isolating switch).
Control modules may only be replaced in the de-energized state. Dismantling and
installation should be carried out in accordance with the mechanical installation
guidelines.
When replacing fuses, only the types specified in the technical data should be
used.
When exchanging batteries, only the types specified in the technical data may be
used. Appropriate measures must always be taken to dispose of batteries.
