Supplement for ex-protected model types
Safety during service work
Caution!
Before any service or repair work is carried out on explosion-protected electrical operating equipment, this must
always be disconnected from the mains supply and secured against being switched on again unintentionally. If the
motor is in a potentially explosive atmosphere it must be removed from the ex-area before it is opened. Before a
submersible motor pump is released and pulled out of the automatic coupling, the pump chamber must be aerated
sufficiently via the drain system for the purpose of inspection work on ex-protected pumping systems.
Safety of electrical connections
Caution!
The electrical connection of the operating equipment to the system control may only be carried out in accordance
with the connection diagram provided. Non-authorised actions harbour potential danger for life and limb and
generally render the warranty invalid. Every explosion-protected submersible motor is equipped with a bi-metal
thermal switch or thermal elements (PTC thermistors) as temperature limiters. These must always be switched
in accordance with the circuit diagram in such a way that an automatic reclosure preventing device becomes
effective when the critical temperature is reached. When failures or damage have been eliminated, the explosion-
protected submersible motor must be switched into the mains again manually.

Description of the motor cooling systems
Submersible motor pumps with submersible motor AM ....../...EX are made up of a hydraulic pump section coupled
via a joint motor shaft with a 3-phase motor. The motor is equipped with a permanently connected power cable.
The submersible motor series AM....../..EX are cooled by the pumping medium and are suitable for S1 continuous
operation with fully flooded motor for pumping raw sewage with sludge and solids. When the motor is not
submerged, the pumps are designed for S3 operation.
Definitions
In order to guarantee proper and safe operation of the equipment, the manufacturer's installation instructions must
always be followed. In addition, the locally applicable installation guidelines must be heeded.
The submersible motors are equipped with temperature limiters in the stator winding for direct temperature
control. The value for the limit temperature can be found in Table 1 in the Annex. Optionally, the submersible
motor pumps can be equipped with detector electrodes and internal level switches.
Caution!
Temperature class T3 applies for submersible motors which are operated using frequency regulation. The
frequency indicated on the nameplate must not be exceeded during motor-generator operation.
Installation instructions
Caution!
The functional and effectiveness readiness of the filling level regulation must be specified in regular monitoring
cycles. A complete inspection must be carried out at least every 3 months.
