Supplement for ex-protected model types

10.1

General instructions

Application validity
The validity of these operating instructions applies exclusively to KESSEL explosion-protected submersible motor
pumps. Together with these operating instructions, the information in the general operating instructions must be
heeded.
Area of application
The information in these supplementary operating instructions are only applicable for KESSEL operating
equipment which is used in potentially explosive zones.
Caution! Non-observance of the instructions can lead to explosions.
10.2

Proper use in accordance with directive 2014/34/EU

Definition of terms
Explosion-protected submersible motor pumps are primarily intended for pumping wastewater with sludge, solids,
fibres, faecal matter and dirty water of all kinds. The atmospheres in the areas where these units are used can be
potentially dangerous due to local and operational circumstances.
Precondition for use
Caution!
The intended use of explosion-protected submersible motor pumps always requires liquid to cover the pump
hydraulics in order to guarantee primary explosion protection in normal operation for the mechanical section.
Caution!
The pumps must never be operated in idling. This must be guaranteed by a level control as described under 5.2.
Caution!
The pumps may only be operated within the power range between input power P1max and P1min in order to
prevent a critical temperature on the outside of the motor. See Annex Table 1 Electrical data for the power limit data
or the details in the respective type approval certificate. The electrical section (submersible motor) may be operated
in potentially explosive areas of zones 1 and 2 on account of its type-approved design. KESSEL ex-protected
submersible motors of the AM series fulfil the requirements of electrical operating equipment for potentially explosive
areas in accordance with directive 2014/34/EU for proper use in potentially explosive areas of:
Device group II category 2. Conditions of use for zone 1 and 2.
Devices of this category are designed for use in areas where an explosive atmosphere of gases, vapours, mists
or dust/air mixtures occurs occasionally. The following standards are decisive for the electrical and mechanical
sections of the ex-relevant execution of the ex-protected submersible motors:
EN 60079-0:2006
EN 60079-1:2007
EN 60079-7:2007
