1.16 Remove and install shift mechanism
(Octavia IlI)
Removing
– Disconnect battery earth strap ⇒ Electrical System; Rep. gr.
27 .
– Remove gearshift knob with collar
– Remove the centre console ⇒ Body Work; Rep. gr. 68 .
– Remove tract to the rear seats in the footwell ⇒ Heating, Air
Conditioning; Rep. gr. 87 .
Installation position for noise insulation and nuts -arrows- for shift
housing
– Unscrew nuts -arrows- attaching the shift housing.
– Remove noise insulation from shift housing ⇒ Body Work;
Rep. gr. 68 .
Remove shift cable and gate selector cable with lock
– Remove safety mechanism -1- for cable end-piece for gear
selector cable -2- and remove cable end-piece for gear selec‐
tor cable with attached gear selector cable from the pin of
gearbox selector lever -3-.
– Remove the cable end-piece for gate selector cable together
with the relay lever -4-
– Disconnect the Bowden cable support from gearbox
-arrows-.
Caution
There is a risk of damaging the decoupling element in the pre-
exhaust pipe should not be bent by more than 10°.
– Detach exhaust system below the exhaust system ⇒ Engine;
Rep. gr. 26 .
– Remove the heat shield below the gearshift mechanism ⇒
Body Work; Rep. gr. 66 .
– Swivel shift housing down and remove with selector cables.
Install
Installation is performed in the reverse order, pay attention to the
following points:
– Align selector housing parallel to body and screw tightly.
• The distance to the vehicle body is the same on both sides.
