Instructions regarding malfunctions, their causes and remedies

The products manufactured by GEA Refrigeration Germany GmbH are highly
advanced, automatic and extremely efficient systems. Faults can occur neverthe-
less and impede continuous working of the system or cause a failure of a part or
of the entire system.
Fault table
Fault
The compressor(s) do not start after
switching on or switch off again immedi-
ately after the start.
External safety.
The compressors do not adapt to the
required capacity.
Product output does not increase although
the refrigerant temperature is way above
the set point.
Suction pressure too low, output drops.
Suction pressure too high.

Instructions regarding malfunctions, their causes and remedies
Cause
Alarm LED is lit.
The electrical circuit is interrupted by a
device in the safety chain.
Product status is START LIMIT.
Cooling medium temperature (heat carrier
temperature) too low
No oil pressure builds up in the compres-
sor.
The oil circuit is blocked by clogged oil fil-
ters.
External safety device (e.g. EMERGENCY
STOP) has been activated.
The capacity control device is malfunction-
ing due to disturbances in the oil circuit or
mechanical influences.
Product status is LIMIT
Slow loss of refrigerant through leaks in
the refrigerant circuit or Suction pressure
too low.
Air in secondary refrigerant circuit.
No secondary refrigerant volume flow rate
or too low.
Pressure sensor defective.
Suction filters are clogged.
Stop valve in suction line or in liquid line
not opened wide enough.
No refrigerant flow to the evaporator.
Too much oil carried from the compressor.
The heat transfer capacity of the evapora-
tor decreases.
Discharge pressure too low.
Defective capacity control device on the
compressor.
Secondary refrigerant temperature too
high.
Remedy
Eliminate cause of fault and acknowledge
alarm. See control operating instructions.
Control is waiting for a time value to
expire.
See control operating instructions, chapter
"Parameter settings".
Reduce cooling medium flow (heat carrier
flow) at start-up.
Exchange or clean oil filter elements, add
oil if necessary.
Eliminate cause and deactivate external
safety devices.
Check and repair the capacity control
device for the compressor.
Output increase is prevented by high
motor current or high discharge pressure.
Check the settings in the control menu
(see control operating instructions).
Check the entire system for leaks. Repair
leakage, top up refrigerant when neces-
sary.
Secondary refrigerant circuit vented.
Check secondary refrigerant pump, filter
and control valves.
Replace pressure sensor.
Clean or replace the filter insert.
Open stop valves completely.
Check the electronic expansion valve.
Check if evaporator is oiled up, drain oil
when necessary. Check the oil return.
Check cooling medium control (heat carrier
control ) or capacity control of the con-
denser.
Check capacity control devices, connec-
tions for solenoid valves.
Reduce secondary refrigerant volume flow
rate.
