MAINTENANCE FOR EARLIER MODELS
Most maintenance procedures are similar to those for the current models. However, the
process for lubrication differs slightly with the earlier models.
LUBRICATION FOR SERIES1 AND SERIES2 VISION MODELS
Lubricating the Z-Axis Linear Bearings
The Z-axis linear bearing provides the support for the spindle block
assembly. It can be lubricated without removing the carriage cover.
For ease of lubrication, a grease gun is recommended.
(Inexpensive grease gun models (under $20) are available at most
hardware and tool stores.) The grease fitting on the bearing is
compatible with those in automotive applications. Although most
bearing greases are acceptable, the bearing manufacturer suggests
a lithium soap-based #2 grease. The linear bearing should be
lubricated approximately every six months (see fig 6.7).
The grease fitting is located on either the top or bottom of the
slide assembly, depending on the type of table. If there is a white
plastic cap on the fitting, remove it and save it. Attach the grease
gun to the grease fitting and pump a small amount of grease into
the assembly. (One or two squeezes should be adequate - squeeze
the trigger gently until a slight pressure is felt. If the grease comes
out above or below the side assembly, stop lubrication and wipe
off the excess.) After lubrication, replace the white plastic cap if
applicable. Run the slide up and down the rail a few times to
spread the grease evenly.
