Chapter 2: Converting an S8300 from LSP to ICC
This document provides a high-level list of tasks for converting an S8300 in Local Survivable
Processor (LSP) mode to primary controller (ICC) mode, and upgrading Avaya Communication
Manager from 1.x to 2.x.
Note:
An upgrade to Avaya Communication Manager 2.1 or later requires an S8300B
Note:
Media Server, which means replacing the S8300A Media Server, if it is in use.
For an upgrade to release 2.0.x, replacing the S8300A Media Server is not
required, but recommended.
To complete these tasks, you will need the following additional documents:
Installation and Upgrades for Avaya G700 Media Gateway and Avaya S8300 Media
Server, 555-234-100. (To obtain this document, go to
navigate to Installations, Migrations, Upgrades & Configurations; then select the
appropriate document.
Administrator Guide for Avaya Communication Manager, 03-300509.
Converting between an LSP and
documents for non-US systems should be available from the regional web sites.
In this scenario, an S8300A configured as an LSP and running Communication Manager
release 1.x, is replaced by an S8300B configured as a standalone ICC primary controller,
running Communication Manager release 2.0.x.
The tasks include:
1. Removing the LSP from the current primary controller.
2. Updating the DHCP server alternate controller list.
3. Updating the gateway MGC list.
4. Replacing the S8300A Media Server with the S8300B Media Server.
5. Remastering the S8300B hard drive.
6. Installing the 2.x Communication Manager software.
7. Configuring the S8300B as an ICC.
8. Administering the new ICC, its media gateway, and any gateways to be controlled by the
new ICC.
