APPENDIX A SETUP PROCEDURES FOR INSTALLING Windows XP
Mode (FOR Windows® 7 ONLY)
The following explains the procedures for installing Windows XP Mode. Before performing these
setup procedures, read the following notice carefully, and perform these procedures for Windows
XP Mode only.
NOTE
• The Windows® 7 built-in model for this product contains Windows XP Mode (virtual
environment with a Windows® XP for which the license has been confirmed).
Windows XP Mode allows applications built for Windows® XP that cannot otherwise run
in Windows® 7 to be used. This is a last resort for maintaining application compatibility.
As such, use this when problems with application compatibility cannot be resolved. The S
model does not support Windows XP Mode.
• Windows XP Mode does not guarantee operation for all Windows® XP applications.
• When using Windows XP Mode, install the main memory card that satisfies the following
sizes:
If the OS is a 32-bit version: 2 GB or more
If the OS is a 64-bit version: 3 GB or more
<When Windows XP Mode is not used>
Since the files used for Windows XP Mode setup contain a virtual hard disk file for the guest OS,
they occupy roughly 2 GB of disk space. As such, if Windows XP Mode is not used, we
recommend the following procedures to delete these directories.
1. Log on as a computer administrator if not already logged on as such.
2. Open a command prompt.
• Click the [Start] button, and choose [All Programs].
• Click [Accessories].
• Right-click [Command Prompt], and choose [Run as administrator] from the displayed
menu.
(If the logged-on administrator account is the built-in Administrator account, click
[Command Prompt].)
• If the [User Account Control] window is displayed, click the [Yes] button.
3. Enter the following in the [Command Prompt] window, and press the [Enter] key.
rmdir /s C:\HITACHI\XP_Mode
