Diagnostics Procedure
If the loopback test requires cooperation with remote site personnel, make arrangements with that
person to perform the test. The End-to-End Self-Test, and the Network, Line and Payload loopbacks
must be initiated (and then terminated) at both sites.
1. Type 1 to select the test you intend to perform. At the selection field highlight, scroll through
the available tests with the right or left arrow keys. The choices are:
•
Stop Test/No Test - default
•
Line Loopback
•
Payload Loopback
•
Local Loopback
•
Local Loopback with Self-Test
•
DTE Loopback
•
Remote Lineloop (Master Only)
•
Remote Lineloop with Self-Test (Master Only)
•
Remote Payload Loopback (Master Only)
•
Remote Payload Loopback with Self-Test (Master Only)
•
End-to-End Self-Test (Master Only)
2. Once you have selected the desired test, press Enter. The cursor will return to the Select box
at the bottom of the screen.
3. To define how long the selected test will run, type 2 and press Enter. At the selection field
highlight, use the arrow keys to toggle the field through the available choices until the desired
interval is displayed, then press Enter. The choices are:
•
30 seconds
•
1 minute through 10 minutes in 1 minute steps
•
15, 20, 25, and 30 minutes
•
No Limit (infinite time).
4. Save the test parameters and start the test by typing S and then pressing Enter. The Test
Status line displays
displays Test in Progress.
During the loopback tests, if Bit Errors and Receive DS3 Idle conditions occur, this data will
accumulate over a 10 second period and then display on the screen.
While the test is in progress, you may initiate the following choices:
•
Reset Test Results - resets bit errors that were inserted and permits you to run another test.
•
Insert 1-Bit Error - generates an error in the pattern to confirm transmission and
reception.
If you selected a test time other than Infinite, the loopback test will stop at the end of the
selected time limit. The Loopback test field will display Stop Test/No Test, and the test
Status field will display Not in Test.
5. To stop a test in progress type 1 (Loopback Test) and then press Enter.
Then scroll to the Stop Test/No Test choice, then press Enter.
Then type S to save. The running test will be aborted.
