Devices and the Number of Line Buttons Available

Save yourself time and effort by familiarizing yourself with how many line buttons are actually available on
your device before you start adding features to them. For example, if you have a Cisco IP Phone 8800 Series
and create 5 speed dial numbers but you only have 3 free line buttons on your phone, only 3 speed dial numbers
can be used.

The Cisco IP Conference Phone 7832 doesn't have line buttons. It only supports 1 line.
The Cisco ATA 190-SC doesn't have line buttons.
Keep in mind that you'll have to deduct 1 from each of the values above because one line is already assigned
as a directory number.
Differences Between Phone Calls and Lines for Cisco Webex

We use the terms lines and calls in very specific ways to explain how to use your phone.
• Lines—Each line corresponds to a directory number or intercom number that others can use to call you.
• Calls—Each line can support multiple calls. By default, your phone supports four connected calls per

To see how many lines you have, look at the right side of your phone screen. You have as many lines as
you have directory numbers and phone line icons.
On the Cisco IP Conference Phone 7832, you have a single line.
line, but your administrator can adjust this number according to your needs.
Only one call can be active at any time; other calls are automatically placed on hold.
Here is an example: If you have two lines and each line supports four calls, then you could have up to
eight connected calls at one time. Only one of those calls is active and the other seven are held calls.
