After new linings are installed, the torque setting will be low until the linings "seat" against the metal plates. After
the first few slips, the torque should rise to the nominal setting.
At the end of the season or before any long period of non-use, fully tighten the socket head screws to relieve the
pressure on the linings. For best performance, store the clutch in a dry place to prevent sticking.
Setting the Clutch
With the cutter in the fully raised position, and the tractor engine at idle speed, engage the PTO for 2-3 seconds
to make the clutch slip.
WARNING!
Do not allow the clutch to slip for more than 2-3 seconds at a time to prevent damage to
the clutch lining.
If the clutch does not slip repeat this procedure 2 or 3 times. If the clutch does not slip after 2 or 3 attempts,
disassemble the clutch, clean up all contact surfaces and replace any damaged components.
Once the clutch has been slipped, use the hex wrench provided to fully loosen all 4 of the socket head screws.
They will not unscrew completely out of the clutch. This will restore pressure to the linings for proper operation.
The clutch is now ready for use. Store the hex wrenches in the manual storage box after use.
At the end of the season or before any long period of non-use, fully tighten the socket head screws to relieve the
pressure on the linings. For best performance, store the clutch in a dry place to prevent sticking.
The FT clutch utilizes a Belleville spring to provide a consistent torque setting during the life of the friction lining.
A spacer band ensures the accuracy of the spring tension setting.
