AUTOMATIC EXPOSURE CONTROL (AEC) (OPTIONAL)
The patient size selection adjusts the kilovolt (kV) and
milliampere (mA) default starting values. After select-
ing the patient size the user can freely select the kV
and mA values according to the patient size. The
desired values can also be selected by pressing AUTO
and a corresponding selection key (A, B or C).
Press the child mode selector key to select the patient
size: child, small adult, normal adult and large adult.
The letters indicating the selected patient size are
shown on the exposure time display. When the size
"child" is selected, also the child mode selector key
indicator light will come on.
The patient size menu is cyclical, after the last choice
the first one is selected again.
If the patient size is not selected the last time
selected size is used.
By pressing the PAN key the selected density is shown
for one second on the sec display. Also the patient
size ( LA, nA, SA or CH) is shown for one second on
the same display.
Proceed as follows to check the functioning of the
AEC:
1. Remove the temple supports and patient positioning
mechanism and insert an AEC compatible cassette
into the cassette carriage.
2. Attach the calibration filter with tape in the middle of
the tube head assembly as shown on the figure
beside.
3. Make sure that the unit is in AEC mode. Take an
exposure with calibration values 8 mA/68 kV. If the
AEC function is in order, the exposure values should
not change.
4. Decrease the mA value manually by 4 mA from the
calibration value. Take an another exposure. The AEC
function should now adjust the exposure values
upwards.
5. Increase the mA value manually by 4 mA from the
calibration value. Take an another exposure. The AEC
function should now adjust the exposure values down-
wards.
If the verifying of the AEC function was not successful,
the calibration must be carried out again, contact your
Planmeca dealer.
