9.8 Steering

9.8.1 To examine and adjust the steering cables
The tension of the steering cables can decrease after a
period of time. This causes the adjustment of the
steering to change.
Examine and adjust the steering as follows:
CAUTION: Do not tighten the cables too much.
1. Do a check that the steering cables can be manually
moved 5 mm up or down on the steering collar.
2. Loosen the locknuts if the steering cables are too
loose.
3. Hold the cable with a wrench and tighten the
adjuster nuts.
4. Examine the cable tension.
5. Tighten the locknuts when the cable tension is
correct.
9.8.2 To replace the steering cable

1. Disconnect the adjuster nuts from the steering

cables are attached to make sure that the cables do
not twist.

3. Disconnect the steering cable front connection (B) at
the steering chain (C).
4. Attach the new cable to the used cable if the used
cables are not cut.
5. Pull out the used cables from the frame to put the
new cables in the frame.
6. Make sure that the steering wheel is in the center
position when the rear wheels are in center position.
If not, reset the chain on the steering sprocket on the
steering column or adjust the steering cable.
9.8.3 To remove the steering cable pulley
1. Remove the tunnel cover. See
covers on page 17
2. Remove the nuts on the rear end of the steering
cables.
3. Remove the screw (A) and the washer (B).

4. Remove the steering cable pulley (C) and the
bushing (D).
9.8.4 To attach the steering cable pulley
1. Put the screw (A) through the washer (B), the
steering cable pulley (C) and the bushing (D).

2. Attach the screw (A) to the rear hole in the frame.
