3 Handling
INFORMATION
The patient must be instructed in the care and handling of the support /
orthosis. The initial fitting and application of the support / orthosis must
be carried out by trained, qualified personnel. The daily duration of use
and the total period of application are generally determined by the physi
cian.
3.1 Size Selection
1) Determine the wrist circumference.
2) Select the size of the support (see sizing table).
3.2 Adaptation and Application
The volar plastic splint is anatomically pre-shaped. In the course of the fit
ting, the plastic splint can be heated and then individually shaped by the
orthotist. The support is delivered closed and ready for trial fitting.
1) Open the elastic strap.
2) Insert the plastic splint into the pocket on the inside of the support (see
Fig. 1). Ensure that the lower end of the plastic splint is in the pocket
intended for this purpose.
3) Pull the support over the hand (see Fig. 2), taking into account the
opening provided for the thumb (see Fig. 3).
4) Close the elastic strap (see Fig. 4).
5) The elastic strap can be removed if required.
6) When providing the support to the patient, the proper fit and position
ing of the support must be verified.
3.3 Cleaning
Clean the support / orthosis regularly.
1) Remove the plastic splint.
2) Recommendation: put the support / orthosis in a bag or net for wash
ing.
