Receive modes

The machine provides the following five receive modes. Select the receive mode according to your
needs.
IMPORTANT
• The machine cannot receive faxes when the power is turned OFF. Press [ON/OFF] to turn the power
ON.
NOTE
• The machine can receive faxes in any mode, such as copy mode (the mode in which [COPY] is pressed), fax
mode (the mode in which [FAX] is pressed), scan mode (the mode in which [SCAN] is pressed), or photo
print mode* (the mode in which [PHOTO] is pressed).
*If faxes are received in photo print mode, [FAX] flashes. Press [FAX] to print received faxes.
If you want to receive only faxes automatically with your
machine, or you have a dedicated telephone line for fax use
only:
Select <FAX ONLY MODE >.
• When you receive a fax call:
• When you receive a voice call: You will not be able to answer the call.
NOTE
• The telephone does not ring when it receives a fax call. If you want it to ring, connect a telephone to your
machine and enable the <3.INCOMING RING> setting (see page 171). You can also select the number of
rings before the machine answers. (See page 171.)
If you have subscribed to the Telstra FaxStream™ Duet service
(Australia only) or the Telecom FaxAbility service (New Zealand
only):
Select <NET SWITCH>.
• When you receive a fax call:
• When you receive a voice call: The machine will ring. Pick up the handset to answer the call.
Telstra FaxStream™ Duet service (Australia only)
In Australia, Telstra offers the FaxStream™ Duet capability. This service allows you to assign two
numbers to your line: one for fax and one for telephone. When the fax number is called, the network
sends a specific ring tone which your machine recognizes and automatically handles as a fax call.
If the telephone number is called, a different ring tone is sent out from the network so that the call
is handled as a voice call. This means that there is no switching delay at the caller's end.
• Triple ring (short-short-short) for fax receiving. Three short rings, at regular intervals.
• Any ring except triple ring (depending on your switchboard) for telephone conversation.

Network Switch System Operation
The procedure for using the network switch system is almost the same as when using your machine
over a normal telephone line. When you receive calls, however, the machine will respond slightly
differently as described below:
Chapter 9
The machine will receive the fax automatically.
