Remote I/O Explanation of the operating mode
All functions of the CPX terminal are controlled directly by the
EtherCAT controller or a superordinate PLC:
Control of the CPX valve terminal (also described as
IO Controller)
Data exchange between controller and modules
Parameterisation of the modules
Diagnostics.
Controller and CPX valve terminal communicate via EtherCAT.
The bus node thereby takes over the connection to the
EtherCAT network and processing of the data exchange:
Protocol implementation
Forwarding of incoming and outgoing data.
The real−time−capable EtherCAT protocol is used for this.
An FEC integrated in the CPX terminal works as a passive
module, i.e. without controller. In this case, the FEC can be
used for connection to other networks, for example: The FEC
takes over the forwarding of incoming and outgoing data and
thus behaves like an I/O module.
