Standby

This option lets you enable or disable the Standby
feature. With this feature, you can set up your computer
to consume less power if you leave it on but unused for
a specified period of time. If you enable this feature, you
can specify up to 90 minutes for the delay between the
time you stop using your computer and the time it
enters Standby. For more information about the
Standby feature, see "Standby" on page 24.
If you are using the Automatic Power Off feature, the
time you set for Standby must be less than the time you

For information about how you can define which

you are using your computer, see "Rapid Resume
advanced options" on page 43.

options:

Halt CPU When Idle
Blink Power Light
Snapshot
If the Rapid Resume and Standby options are enabled,
you can use the Snapshot option to save the state of
your desktop when your computer enters Standby. For
more information about the Snapshot feature, see
"Snapshot" on page 25.
Halt CPU when idle
If the Standby option is enabled, you can use the Halt
CPU When Idle option to stop the central processing unit
(CPU) during Standby. This conserves power without
affecting the operation of your computer.
Blink power light
If the Standby option is enabled, you can use the Blink
Power Light option to specify whether you want the
system power light to blink when your computer is in
Standby.

Wake Up on Ring

For Windows 95 computers, this option must be
changed in the Rapid Resume Manager. See
"Chapter 3: Understanding the Rapid Resume features"
on page 21 for information on finding this setting in the
Rapid Resume Manager.
If you have installed another operating system on your
computer, this option lets you enable or disable the
Wake Up on Ring feature. With this feature, you can set
up your computer to turn itself on when the telephone
rings. (It may take several rings before your computer
wakes up completely.) For more information about the
Wake Up on Ring feature, including information about
when you might not want to use this feature, see "Wake
Up on Ring" on page 27.
