Table 3: Troubleshooting: Hardware problems
If the problem is:
When the computer is turned on, a picture
appears indicating a diskette should be
inserted into drive A:.
Note: If any of these problems continue after taking the actions listed, see your online Aptiva Helper for information on running
diagnostics. If you need service, see the HelpWare book.
Here's what to do:
1. Use the Setup Utility to make sure that startup devices are set correctly. For
information about these Setup Utility options, see "Configuring startup
options" on page 47.
2. In the Setup Utility, make sure the Disk Drive options for the drives you have
designated as startup devices are set correctly. For information about these
Setup Utility options, see "Changing disk drive configuration" on page 35.
3. Make sure the drive power and signal cables are securely attached to the
back of the hard disk drive in the tower. For instructions on working in the
tower, see "Adding and removing drives" on page 84.
4. Insert the Product Recovery CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive and press
Ctrl + Alt + Delete. Follow the instructions on the screen to restore the
operating system files to your computer's hard disk.
Attention! This recovery process formats your hard drive, erasing all files.
5. If you are not able to restore the operating system files to your computer's
hard disk, see the HelpWare book for information on obtaining service.
