Technical note about Wake Up
on Ring and serial port A
The system board in your Aptiva computer has a jumper
(JP12) that is used to enable or disable Wake Up on
Ring control over any device connected to serial port A.
Your computer comes from the factory with this jumper
set to pins 1 and 2. This setting disables Wake Up on
Ring control over serial port A.
With Wake Up on Ring disabled for serial port A, devices
you install on this port operate independently of Rapid
Resume's Wake Up on Ring settings. Independent
operation is important for a product like Home Director,
which has its own Wake Up on Event capabilities. For
example, if Rapid Resume's Wake Up on Ring settings
were allowed to control Home Director's Wake Up on
Event settings, you could not disable Wake Up on Ring
in Rapid Resume Manager without also disabling Home
Director's Wake Up on Event capabilities.
If you want Rapid Resume's Wake Up on Ring settings to
control a device installed on serial port A, set jumper
JP12 to pins 2 and 3. For the location of system board
jumper JP12, see "Identifying the parts of the system
board" on page 65. Pin numbers are identified on the
system board.
Your internal modem is controlled by the Rapid Resume
Wake Up on Ring settings regardless of the jumper
JP12 setting.
