DRIVING CONTROLS
DRIVING SAFETY SYSTEMS
WARNING: ESC only functions properly if
wheels with the recommended
specification tyres are used.
WARNING: The level of ESC intervention
varies dependent on the handling mode
selected. Sport mode has less
intervention than Normal, and Track or
Race mode has less intervention that
Sport.
ESC is activated automatically as soon as the
engine or electric motor are running.
Traction Control System
The traction control system is an integral part
of ESC.
The traction control system reduces engine
torque to prevent the wheels from spinning. If
additional intervention is required to stop the
wheels from spinning, the vehicle will apply
the rear brakes individually. The traction
control system brakes individual drive wheels
to prevent them from spinning. This means
that the vehicle can accelerate on slippery
surfaces.
WARNING: The traction control system
cannot reduce the risk of an accident if
you drive too fast.
Deactivating ESC
WARNING: When ESC is deactivated, the
risk of the vehicle skidding is increased.
Adapt your driving style to suit road and
traffic conditions.
WARNING: Do not deactivate ESC unless
on a track and prevailing conditions are
suitable.
NOTE: When you deactivate ESC, the
following conditions result:
the 'ESC OFF' warning light illuminates
ESC no longer improves driving stability
the engine's torque is no longer limited
and the drive wheels could spin
the anti-lock braking system remains
activated
1. Ensure the vehicle is stationary, with the
engine running and the brake pedal
depressed.
2. Track, powertrain and handling modes
should be selected, or vehicle in race
mode but the dynamics panel should
not be switched on, see Handling
Control, page 2.23.
3. Press and hold the AERO and MANUAL
buttons on the active dynamics panel for
2 seconds, a warning message will be
displayed on the central screen display
of the instrument cluster 'Confirm ESC
Off'.
