MAINTAINING YOUR McLAREN
BATTERY CARE AND MAINTENANCE
NOTE: When charging, ensure the
vehicle is switched off by pressing the
Start button. When the vehicle is ON, the
charger does not start charging.
NOTE: If the protective cap is removed or
the charger is connected to the vehicle
when the vehicle is switched on & ready
to drive, the vehicle automatically
immobilises by engaging the parking
brake and forcing neutral gear. Be sure
to switch off the vehicle, because
charging will not be started until the
vehicle is switched off.
NOTE: If the charger is connected to the
vehicle when the vehicle is off, the
charging will not commence until the
parking brake is applied.
NOTE: If the vehicle is stored for a long
period of time, charge the vehicle at
least once every 3-4 weeks.

NOTE: Vehicle ignition can be turned on
for brief periods during charging to
enable audio and navigation system.
However, because these operations
consume 12V battery power faster than
the charge rate of the charger, it is not
recommended to do this for more than
30 minutes. If a longer period is required
then the charger should be
disconnected and the vehicle should be
started.
NOTE: If the charge port is frozen, melt
the ice using a hair drier. After the ice has
melted, charge the vehicle. Forcing the
charge connector to connect may cause
a malfunction.
NOTE: Residual current device
incorporated within charger cable
detects earth faults or current leaks. It
protects the user by switching the
charger unit off.
NOTE: Charging related information is
displayed on the charger unit (5 Light
Emitting Diodes (LEDs)), as well as on the
instrument cluster when the vehicle
ignition is ON.
NOTE: The charger unit will warm up and
be hot to the touch during its normal
operation. To ensure effective operation
the charger unit should therefore be
removed from its storage bag before
being switched on.
