Description
2.6 Communication
The benefit is the considerable savings potential in all areas of the system, from project
planning and commissioning, to operation and maintenance, to the point of later system
extensions.
The operation of the gas analyzers from a control system or a separate PC is possible with
the operating tool SIMATIC PDM (PROCESS DEVICE MANAGER). This software runs
under Windows XP/Windows 2000 and can be integrated in the process control system
SIMATIC PCS 7. With this, the integration of the devices in the system as well as the
complex parameter structure of the analyzers can be clearly illustrated. Operating becomes
simply a matter of "clicking".
The Profibus user organization (PNO) is an independent international institution and
represents the interests of many manufacturers and users. Besides the services, such as
consulting, training and device certification, their primary job is to further develop,
standardize and promote PROFIBUS technology. The binding functionality definition for a
device class in the form of a profile is the condition for standardized device behavior from
various manufacturers, the so-called interoperability. At the end of 1999, the binding profile
for analysis devices was predefined. With this, the interaction of all PROFIBUS compatible
devices of a system is guaranteed.
In this profile, the functionality of the analyzers is defined in a block diagram: for example,
the physical block describes the measuring procedure, analyzer and manufacturer name,
serial number and the operating state (operation, maintenance). Different function blocks
contain the execution of certain functions, such as measured value and alarm processing.
The transducer blocks describe the function of the actual measuring process, as well as its
control, e.g. the pre-processing of a measured value, cross corrections, characteristics,
measuring ranges, as well as switching and control processes. The data transmission
between the bus participants is defined in protocols.
It is distinguished between cyclic and acyclic services. With cyclic services, time-critical data,
such as measured values and status, are transmitted. The acyclic services allow device
parameters to be queried or changed during operation.
All gas analyzers of Series 6 (ULTRAMAT 6, OXYMAT 6/ 61, CALOMAT 6 and FIDAMAT 6
as well as ULTRAMAT 23) are profibus-compatible with an optional plug-in card, which can
also be retrofit.
