MAINTENANCE
Read all of SAFETY and this section before attempting any procedure. Pay particular attention to Notices, Cautions, Warnings and Dangers.
PARKING BRAKE ADJUSTMENT
Check the parking brake each week. Check the brake cables, the cable
linkage and pivots to make sure the brakes operate correctly. Replace worn
or damaged components immediately.
To test the operation of the parking brake:
1. Park the vehicle near the bottom of a hill with a 16.7° (30%) slope. The
front of the vehicle must be toward the bottom of the hill. Engage the
parking brake, put the transmission in Neutral and stop the engine.
2. With the parking brake disengaged, rotate the adjustment knob to the right side 90 degrees. Engage and disengage
the parking brake. Repeat this step until a "snap over center" action is reached when you engage the parking brake.
NOTICE: Over adjustment of the parking brake will cause hard lever action, but will not increase the brake per-
formance.
3. Repeat the test on the hill.

Do not disengage the parking brake with the engine stopped.
The vehicle must not move with the parking brake engaged. If the vehicle does move, start
the engine, drive the vehicle to the bottom of the hill and adjust the parking brake.
