Read all of SAFETY and this section before attempting any procedure. Pay particular attention to Notices, Cautions, Warnings and Dangers.
Always replace the hydraulic filter when you replace the hydraulic fluid. Discard used hydraulic fluid in accordance with
local regulations.
To replace the hydraulic fluid in the rear axle:
1. Clean the area around the rear axle drain plug to prevent
dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
2. Put a container that can hold more than 3 gallons (22.7 liter)
under the rear axle. Remove the drain plug from the bottom
of the rear axle and allow the hydraulic fluid to drain into the
container.
3. After the oil has drained, install the drain plug. Torque the
drain plug to 9-14 ft. lb. (12-19 Nm).
4. Remove the fill plug and fill the rear axle with hydraulic fluid
to the bottom of the fill port. Install the fill plug.
5. Start the engine to remove air from the hydraulic system.
Operate the steering and bed lift functions for one minute to
remove air and balance the hydraulic fluid level.
6. When the oil level has balanced and air is removed, remove the fill plug. Fill the rear axle with hydraulic fluid to the
bottom of the fill port. Torque the fill plug to 9-14 ft. lb. (12-19 Nm).
To replace the hydraulic fluid in the high/low hydraulic system:
1. Clean the area around the tank drain plug to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
2. Put a container that can hold more than 6 gallons (22.7 liter) under the high/low hydraulic system tank. Remove the
drain plug from the bottom of the tank and allow the hydraulic fluid to drain into the container.
3. After the oil has drained, install the drain plug.
4. Remove the tank cap and fill the tank with hydraulic fluid.
5. Start the engine to remove air from the hydraulic system. Operate the engine for five minutes to remove air and bal-
ance the hydraulic fluid level.
6. When the oil level has balanced and air is removed, add hydraulic fluid to one inch (2.5 cm) below the bottom of the
filler neck.
Hydraulic Filter
The standard hydraulic system is protected by one 10 micron filter. The filter is located on the frame rail below the driver's
seat.
The optional high/low hydraulic system is protected by a separate 10 micron filter. The filter is located in front of the high/
low hydraulic tank.
When you replace the filters:
1. Fill the new filter with hydraulic fluid and lubricate the filter O-ring with hydraulic fluid before assembling the new filter.
Hand tighten the filter.
2. Operate the engine at idle speed for five minutes to remove air from the hydraulic system.
NOTICE: During the process of removing air from the hydraulic system the oil level sensor may activate the low
oil level warning indicators. Should this occur the oil level light will illuminate and a buzzer will sound.
3. Stop the engine and check the level of hydraulic fluid in the tank. Add hydraulic fluid to the Full mark on the dipstick.
