How To Bleed Air From The Diesel Fuel System
After the fuel filter element is replaced or the fuel hoses are replaced, bleed the air from the fuel system.
1. Open the bleeder valve on the fuel filter.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position to operate the fuel pump, but do not start the engine. When the air bub-
bles stop, close the fuel filter bleeder valve.
3. Open the bleeder valve on the engine injection pump. When the air bubbles stop, close the bleeder valve. Turn the
key to the OFF position and clean any fuel spills.
4. Start the engine in 10 second intervals until the engine starts. The engine will remove any air remaining in the fuel
system.

BATTERY

Before servicing the battery, make sure the ignition switch is in the OFF position and the key is removed.
• Tighten the battery cables on the battery terminals. To prevent corro-
sion, apply a layer of silicone dielectric grease to battery terminals
and ends of cables. Keep the vent caps and battery terminal covers
in position.
• Before doing any welding operation on the vehicle, disconnect the
battery cables from the battery and the connectors from the control-
lers.
• Confirm the battery polarity before connecting or disconnecting the
battery cables.
• When installing the battery, connect the positive (RED) battery cable before the negative (BLACK) battery cable.
• When removing the battery, disconnect the negative (BLACK) battery cable before the positive (RED) battery
cable.

Diesel or gasoline fuel can damage your skin. Use gloves when you use
fuel. If the fuel contacts your skin, clean off immediately.
Do not disconnect fuel hoses, tubes or open plugs on the engine high-
pressure fuel system.
Discard used fuel in accordance with local regulations.
When servicing the battery, use insulated tools, wear protective glasses
and protective clothing.
Discard used batteries in accordance with local regulations.
The battery contains corrosive acid. Prevent contact with the battery
acid.
Always wash hands after servicing a battery.
The battery posts, battery terminals and related accessories contain lead
and lead compounds, chemicals known to the State of California to
cause cancer and other reproductive harm.
