(1) SB
The reserved SB function enables a redundant configuration. System Mirror enables
DIMM mirroring (redundant configuration).
- When the system is operated in System Mirror:
Even when a memory (DIMM) failure occurs, the failed DIMM is automatically
isolated, and the partition operation is continued. To maintain (swap) the failed
DIMM, the partition must be stopped. After the partition is stopped, perform
hot maintenance (swapping) over the failed SB. If a CPU fails, the partition
stops, isolates the failed CPU, and restarts automatically. To maintain the failed
CPU, stop the partition, and then perform hot swapping over the failed SB. To
add a new SB to the partition, the partition must be restarted.
- When the system is operated without System Mirror set
If a memory (DIMM) or CPU failure occurs, the partition stops, isolates the
failed part, and restarts automatically. To maintain the failed part, stop the
partition, and then perform hot swapping over the failed SB. To add a new SB
to the partition, the partition must be restarted.
(2) CPUs
Redundant configuration and hot swapping are not available.
If a CPU fails, the partition stops, isolates the failed CPU, and restarts automatically.
Isolating the failed CPU may cause no normal CPU to be available in the SB. In this
case, the entire SB is subjected to isolation even if a normal DIMM exists. If no
normal SB is available in the partition, the partition stops.
To swap the failed CPU, stop the partition that includes the SB containing the failed
CPU, extract the SB containing the failed CPU, and maintain (swap) the CPU. Insert
the SB containing a new CPU into the partition, and then restart the partition.
