The follow ing system com ponents
are m onitored or undergo a self­
check: crash-sensor, airbag ign i­
tion circuits, driver and passenger
seat belt buckles. Initially, when
the key is turned from steering
lock position 0 to positions 1 or 2,
m alfunctions in the crash-sensor
are detected and indicated (the
" S R S " indicator lam p stays on
longer than 4 seconds).
In the operational m ode, after the
indicator lam p has gone out
follow ing the initial check, inter­
ruptions and short circu its in the
airbag ignition circu it and in the
driver and passenger seat belt
buckle harnesses, and low voltage
in the entire system are detected
and indicated.

In the event a m alfunction of the
" S R S " is indicated as outlined
above, the " S R S " m ay not be
operational. W e strongly recom ­
m end that you visit an authorized
M ercedes-B enz dealer im m ediate­
ly to have the system checked;
otherw ise the " S R S " m ay not be
activated w hen needed.
Important!
T he airbags are designed to
activate only in certain frontal
and front-angled im pacts. Only
during th e s e types of im pacts
will they provide th e ir supple­
m ental protection. The driver
and p assenger should always
w ear the seat belts, otherw ise it
is not possible for the airbags to
provide th e ir intended supple­
m ental protection.
In cases of o th er frontal im ­
pacts, roll-overs, certain side
im pacts, rear collisions, or other
accid en ts w ithout sufficien t
frontal forces, the airbag will not
be activated. T he driver and
passengers will then be pro­
tected by th e fasten ed seat
belts.
