Seat Belts and S upplem ental
R estraint System (SR S)
Your vehicle is equipped w ith seat
belts for all seats, e m ergency te n ­
sioning retractors for the front
seats, as well as airbags and knee
bolsters for driver and front
passenger.
Seat Belts
Important!
Laws in m ost states and all
Canadian provinces require seat
belt use.
All states and provinces require
use of child restraints that com ply
with U.S. Federal M otor V ehicle
Safety Standard 213 and
C anadian M otor V ehicle Safety
Standard 213.1.
We strongly recom m end their use.
W arning!
N ever ride in a m oving veh icle
w ith the seat back reclined.
Sitting in an excessively re­
clined position can be dan­
gerous. You could slide under
the seat belt in a collision. If
you slide under it, the belt
would apply fo rce at th e ab­
d om en or neck. T h at could
cause serious or even fatal
injuries. The seat back and
seat belts provide the best
restraint w hen the w e a re r is in
an upright position and belts
are properly positioned on the
body.
Seat Belt W arning System
W ith the key in steering lock
position 2, an a udible warning
sounds for a short tim e if the
d riv e r's seat belt is not fastened.
W arning!
If you are ever in an accident,
your injuries can be con sid er­
ably m ore severe w ithout your
seat belt properly buckled.
W ithout you r seat belt buck­
led, you can hit th e interior of
the v eh icle or be ejected from
it. You can be seriously in­
jured or killed.
In the sam e crash, the pos­
sibility for injury or death is
lessened with your seat belt
buckled.
