M any cleaning products can
be hazardous. Som e are
poisonous, others are flam ­
m able. A lw ays follo w the
instructions on th e particular
container. A lways open your
c a r's doors or w indow s w hen
cleaning the inside.
N ever use fluids or solvents
that are not designed for
cleaning your car.
In operation, your vehicle is
subjected to varying external
influences w hich, if gone un­
checked, can attack the p aint­
w ork as well as the underbody
and cause lasting dam age.
Such dam age is caused not only
by extrem e and varying clim atic
conditions, but also by air pol­
lution, road salt, tar, gravel and
stone ch ip pin g. Grease and oil,
fuel, coolant, brake fluid, bird
droppings, tree resins etc. should
be rem oved im m ediately to avoid

paint dam age. F requent w ashing,
however, reduces a n d /o r
e lim in a tes the aggressiveness and
potency of the above adverse in­
fluences.
M ore frequent w ashings are
necessary to deal with unfavor­
able conditions; for exam ple, near
the ocean, in industrial areas
(sm oke, exhaust em issions), or
during w inter operation.
You should check your vehicle
from tim e to tim e for stone
ch ipping or other dam age. Any
dam age should be repaired as
soon as possible to prevent the
start of corrosion.
In doing so, do not neglect the
underside of the car. A prere­
q uisite for a thorough check is a
w ashing of the underbody fo l­
lowed by a thorough inspection.
D am aged areas need to be re­
undercoated.
Your vehicle has been treated at
the factory w ith a w ax-base
rustproofing in the body cavities
w hich w ill last for the lifetim e of
the vehicle. Post-production
treatm ent is neither necessary nor
recom m ended by M ercedes-Benz
because of the possibility of
inco m p a tibility betw een m aterials
used in the production process
and others applied later.
