The second cause of the contactor contacts
not closing is worn or burnt contacts within the
contactor.
1. Check for proper line voltage at the
terminals marked L1, L2, on the contactor.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Connect voltage measurement equipment.
4. Plug in washer or reconnect power and
confirm correct line voltage.
5. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
6. If voltage is correct, move the meter leads
to the opposite side of contactor (T1, T2).
7. Plug in washer or reconnect power and
confirm correct line voltage at T1 and T2
after the contactor is energized and the coil
pulls in. If not, replace the contactor.
8. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
NOTe: Do not do the contactor contact test
by manually pushing in the contactor, as the
pressure on the contacts will be different
and could lead to a false diagnosis.
The third reason for a contactor failing is an
open coil. To check resistance at the coil:
1. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
2. Remove the two wires from the coil
connectors.
3. Check resistance across the two terminals.
Resistance should be approximately 525Ω.
An open circuit (infinite Ω) reading or a
reading of 20% difference higher or lower
is cause to replace the coil or the complete
contactor.
The fourth reason for a contactor not passing
voltage through it would be that the coil is not
getting voltage to it. To check continuity of the
connecting wire:
1. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
2. Remove the two wires from the coil and
from the control board.
3. Check the wires between the coil
connectors and the control board connector
for continuity (0Ω). If there is continuity (0Ω)
in both wires, then the problem is in the
control board. Replace the control board,
reconfigure and initialize the control board,
then check for proper motor operation.
