This procedure defines the method required to check for delamination of composite structures using the coin tap method.

Inspection
A.

Coin Tap Inspection.

(1) Establish a grid on each surface 1.5 inches by 1.5 inches (38.1 mm by 38.1 mm) using an erasable marker.
NOTE:
(2) Tap the composite panel with a coin at each grid point.
(3) Possible delamination damage should be indicated by a distinct change in coin tap sound.
(4) If delamination damage is detected, map the damage area by tapping at lesser intervals.
