Procedure
NOTE:
This procedure assumes that the composite repair has been appropriately laid up and all steps of the
repair, prior to the vacuum bagging callout, have been accomplished.
NOTE:
Make sure the vacuum is applied before the adhesive begins to cure.
A.
Apply Vacuum Bagging Material.
(1) Cover the repaired area and approximately two inches (50 mm) beyond, with peel ply and press the peel ply down to
remove all voids.
(2) Apply sealer tape to the part, around the edges of the repair.
(a) Maintain three-to-four inch (75 to 100 mm) distance from edges of repair.
(3) Put bleeder cloth over work area, within the area enclosed by sealer tape.
(4) Put bagging material over the work area.
(a) Make sure that bagging material is not stretched tightly over repair area. There must be enough material to
totally conform to the contour of the final repair. Excess material will not cause a poor bond or void.
(5) Press bagging material firmly onto sealer tape to ensure a good seal.
(6) Install a vacuum port adapter in the bagging material and carefully seal.
NOTE:
(7) Apply vacuum and maintain at least 20 in. Hg (510 mm). Do not let any leaks in the bag.
(8) Let repair cure according to manufacturer's requirements for the adhesive.
(9) Remove bag material, bleeder cloth, peel ply, and sealer tape from work area.
