swabs used to apply the chemical film must be disposed of per local laws.
(2) All paints and primers contain solvents that are not EPA approved. Check local laws.
(3) Epoxy and pretreatment primers contain hexavalent chromium. Comply with all local laws on use and disposal.
4.
Manual Cleaning
A.
Solvent Wipe
(1) General requirements:
(a) Solvents must never be poured or sprayed on structure to be cleaned.
(b) Clean cloths and clean solvents must be used during the final cleaning operation.
(c) Bonding or subsequent priming operations must be accomplished as soon as possible after you clean and dry
the surfaces.
(d) Solvent cleaned surfaces must be dry and free of all visible soils. Iridescent surfaces are evidence of incorrect
cleaning.
CAUTION: Do not expose solvents to flame or spark. Solvents must be considered flammable. Fresh air
CAUTION: Airplane must be grounded during a solvent wipe.
B.
Procedures for Solvent Wipe
(1) Wipe off excess oil, grease, dirt and/or foreign material from the surface.
(2) Apply solvent to a clean cloth, preferably by pouring solvent onto the cloth from a safety can or other approved
container. The cloth must be well saturated but not to the point where dripping will occur.
(3) Wipe the surface with the moistened cloth as required to dissolve or loosen soil. Work on a small enough area so that
the surface being cleaned remains wet.
(4) With a clean, dry cloth, immediately wipe the surface while the solvent is still wet. Do not allow the surface to
evaporate dry.
(5) Repeat steps (2), (3) and (4) until there is not discoloration on the drying cloth.
(6) Refer to Table 1, Approved Solvents for Manual Cleaning. The solvents are listed in order of preference for each type
of material to be cleaned.
