Mixing and Application of Aerodynamic Fairing Compounds
A.
Mix per manufacturer's specifications.
B.
Application of Aerodynamic Fairing Compound.
(1) Apply properly mixed catalyzed material to the prepared surfaces with a squeegee in a motion similar to wiping.
Press the catalyzed fairing compound into the depressions and leave a fairly smooth, level surface.
(2) If the surface to which fairing compound is applied is vertical, apply fairing compound no more than 0.25 inch (6.3
mm) thick, allow to cure, sand and then apply additional layers of fairing compound as required.
NOTE:
(3) Sand the aerodynamic fairing compound smooth with 150 grit aluminum oxide paper.
(4) Wipe the individual patches of cured fairing compound and an area of approximately two inches beyond the edges of
the patch with a piece of cheesecloth soaked with methyl n-propyl ketone.
(5) For all areas but composite surfaces, wheel well doors, and surfaces that surround fuel filling ports, immediately coat
the wiped area with wash primer. Refer to Protective Treatment of Metal.
(6) For metal surfaces that surround fuel filling ports and the wheel well door, brush chemical film the area surrounding the
patch then coat with epoxy primer. Refer to Protective Treatment of Metal.
(7) Apply sanding surfacer after allowing wash primer or epoxy primer to dry approximately 15 minutes. Refer to
Protective Treatment of Metal.
(8) Let sanding surfacer dry, then sand to obtain aerodynamic smoothness.
(9) Apply finish surface per Maintenance Manual, Chapter 20, Exterior Finish - Cleaning/Painting

Type III and IV fairing compound can be force-cured by training an electric hot air blow gun or
