Balancing Requirement
A.
The aileron must be complete with the these components installed before you do the balancing procedure.
(1) Exterior paint.
(2) Trim tab actuator and actuator instrumentation cable (left aileron).
(3) Static wicks (2) installed in base.
(4) Bond jumpers (2).
(5) Aileron tip cover.
B.
Balancing Limits.
(1) The aileron must be balanced between -1.5 inch-pounds and +1.5 inch-pounds overbalance.
C. Maximum Certified Weights.
(1) Adjustable balance weight 0.5 pounds (227 g).
(2) Right aileron 22.4 pounds (10.16 kg).
(3) Left aileron 26.5 pounds (12.02 kg).
D. To balance, add or remove adjustable balance weights.
(1) All tuning weights are installed on the aileron tip .
(2) Remove the cotter pins, nuts, and washers that hold the balance weights to the aileron tip.
(3) Add or remove balance weights as required.
(4) Install enough NAS1149F0483P washers to allow a cotter pin to be installed when the nut is properly torqued.
(5) Install the tip cap with screws.

Aileron Balancing

A.
Setup.
(1) Adjust the balancing beam to fit on the aileron approximately fourteen inches inboard of the outboard hinge centerline
as shown in Figure 201 and as defined in Procedures for Balancing Control Surfaces.
(2) Balance the balancing beam. Refer to Procedures for Balancing Control Surfaces.
(3) Balance the aileron, with balancing beam installed. Refer to Procedures for Balancing Control Surfaces.
B.
Adjustment.
(1) Tape the trim tab instrumentation cable to the upper aileron surface, along the hinge line.
(2) Tape the trim tab in a faired position.
(3) Aileron is balanced within tolerance if balance beam is level with pound weight removed or located with its centerline
between 1.50 and -1.50 inches forward or aft of the balance beam centerline.
(4) If not within limits, add or remove adjustable aileron balance weights and repeat balancing procedure.
