Adjusting
Cable Backlash
(Refer to
Fig.
7)

NOTE:
To
reduce backlash
and
facilitate
ad-
justment of cable,
the
L
(low)
1ntsh
button must
be held in
tightly, by em assistant, while the
cable
adjustment is being made
at
the
tml1S-
mission.
Loosen
cable
bracket
screw
to permit
free
movement
of cable bracket.
Gently
push or
pull
cable assembly, in trans-
mission housing,
to
estimate or
measure
"free
piny" of
cable housing.
NOTE:
Tota
l "free
play"
of
cable
assembly
will
be
approximately
%2
inch.
After
determining total
backlash
or
"free
play" of
control cable,
position
the
control cable
bracket
80
that the bracket
location
"splits" the
totul
backlush
or
"free
play"
into
two
equul
parts; then
tighten
bracket
cap
screw.
NOTE: To
test
if
equal
amount of
backlash
ha.s
been obtained,
alternately

in
R-1'everse
and
L-low lJ/J.sh buttons.

equal,

is
correct.
Removal
of Push Button Control Unit
Remove the three
bezel retaining
screws (one
screw
is
located
on
underside
of
unit receiver)
and remove
bezel
and push buttons.
Remove
the two hex nuts (and
lockwashers)
holding push button control unit to instrument
panel casting.
Pull push button
cont rol
unit from
rear
of in-
stru
ment panel; down and
toward
front of
car.
Remove
and
install control
cable
a ssembly as
outlined
under
" Replacing
Contr ol
Cable
As-
sembly."
Insta
ll by
rever
sing procedures
outlined
for
removal.
NOTE:
Bezel should
be cente1"ed on
button.~
to
insure
their
/t'ee return.
When replacing light
socket
assembly,
wire
must be
placed
over
top of
upper
stud
and be-
tween control
unit
and
mounting plate
(Fig. 8).
NOTE:
When
attaching a 'Push
button
to
oper-
ating
slide,
fingers of
slide may be CO'11L1Jressed
slightly
to
aid
retention of button
to
slide.

Remove push button

unit as outlined

preceding
paragraph.
Remove
the two sC"ews
holding cable assem-
bly bracket to
control
unit.
Remove
hairpin
clip
secu
ring cable
end
to
actuator
bar and remove
cable. Refer
to Fig-
ure
5.
Remove
cable
at
transm
ission.
Refer to " Re-
moval
and Installation of Cable
Assembly."
Pull cable assembly through rubber grommet
(or remove
g
rommet)
on dash panel.
To
install a new
cable
assembly,
reverse
oper-
ations
outlined for
removal.
Refer
to " Removal and
I
nstallation of Cable
Assembly" and also
"Adjusting Cable
Back-
lash."
Replacing Light Bulb
in
Push Button Unit
Remove the three
bezel
retai ning screws (one
screw
is located
on
underside
of unit
receiver)
and
remove bezel and
D-drive
push button.
Remove
defective
or
burned out
bulb.
Refer
to "Electrical
Seetion"
of
thi
s
manual for light
bulb specifications.
Replace
push
bullon,
r
einstall
bezel, and
test
operation
of
unit.
