Operation
(Refer
to
Figs.
4 and
5)
When a push button control unit button is
pushed in, the push button operating slide
con-
tacts the cable actuator, causing it to
pivot .
Movement
of
the cable actuator
about
its
axis,
moves the attached wire cable.
When the
push
hulton reaches its
limit
of
travel, a
relieved
portion on
the
push button
operating slide passes under the operating slide
lock pawl. This action allows the
sp
ring~loaded
pawl to lock the push bulton in
the
engaged
position.
The movement of the
w ire
cable
transforms
the rotary motion
of the
cable actuator
into
linear motion
to
position the
transmission
man-
ual control valve in the
selected
range.
When the
operator
pushes another
button
to
se
l~ct
a different
range,
the following events
take place:
During initial
movement of the
push button
operating slide,
the edge of the detent on the
slide
strikes
the lock
pawl
,
thereby
r
eleasi
ng
the
firsl push button from
the
restraint of the lock
'.
