SERVICE DIAGNOSIS
LOW BUTTON REQUIRES HEAVY
PRESSURE TO LOCK
Cause:
Cable driven
too
far forward into transmission.
Re
medy:
Readjust cable
as
outlined
under
"Adjusting
Cable
Backlash."
REVERSE BUTTON REQUIRES HEAVY
PRESSURE TO LOCK
Cause:
Cable
pulled
too far
out
of
transmission

ing.
Remedy:
Readjust
cable
as outlined under "Adjusting
Cable Backlash."
NOTE:

CLUNKING" NOISE WHEN BUTTON
RETURNS
Cause:
Operating
slide
rubber stop
bumper
missing,
Remedy:
Remove push
button control
unit
and
replace
rubber
bumper.
PUSH BUTTON WILL NOT RETURN
Cause:
Broken
operating slide s pring.
Remedy:
Remove
push b utton
unit and
replace
broken
or
def
ective spring.
PUSH BUTTON WILL NOT LOCK
Cause:
Defective
or worn locking
pawl
or operating
slide retainer notch.
Remedy:
Replace
push button control unit.
PUSH BUTTON
"BINDS"
Causes:
a. Wear at bulkheads of push button
unit.
b.
Warped
slides.

Lubricate
with MOPAR
Lubriplate.

unit.

Carefully
relieve
area where push
button
contacts felt.
This
can be easily
done by
insert-
ing a .005
inch feele
r
gauge
between the push
button
cover
and
the
felt
mask.
Gently moving
the
gauge
in and
out
in
this area will usually
reli
eve the binding condition.
Should it become necessary to
replace
or
re-glue
the felt
mask,
use a suitable adhesive
agent
and place
glue in areas indicated in Fig-
ure
9. Diameter
of the glue "spots" should
not
exceed
%
inch.
LOOSE PUSH BUTTON
COVER
Cause:
Insufficient tension
on
push button cover re-
taining tang.
Remedy:
Remove bezel
to
expose
push
button. Using
a
small
scr ewdriver
(or similar tool)
exert
suffi-
cient
pressure to force tang into plastic recess
on push button.
