Switching to Foreign Language Characters
Chapter 9
Switching to Foreign Language Characters
A multi-lingual Printer? Yes. Switches 2-1, 2-2 and 1-7 allow us to select character
sets for 5 different languages. All our work to this point has been in the U.S.A.
mode.
JAPANESE
The Japanese Katakana character-set is substituted for the TRS-80 graphics-set by
flicking a single switch. To make the dramatic comparison, let's start by typing in
a simple program and print out the current contents of ASCII 160 to 224 - -
where the graphics are stored:
1 0 C = 1 5 9
2 0 FOR N = 1 TO 5
3 0 C = C + 1
4 0
I F C = 2 2 5
END
5 0 L P R I N T C ; "
=
" ; C H R $ ( C ) ,
6 0 NEXT N
7 0 L P R I N T
: L P R I N T
: GOTO 2 0
and RUN.
