Chapter 9
Setting the Switches
Position the Printer as shown in Figure 1-7. Look for the 2 clear plastic caps.
They are dust covers, and snap right off. Gently, remove them.
The assembly on the right contains 8 switches, and is labeled "SVV1". The smaller
one to its left contains 4 switches and is called "SW2". Switches set to the left are
ON — to the right are off. So far, so good.
They will probably leave the factory burn-in and checkout station set something
like this:

If they are not like this, and you are connecting the Printer to a TRS-80 with an
EPSON cable, set the switches as above. Other computers using the Centronics
standard PARALLEL interface matching scheme will want the switches set the
same way.
If you are using a Model I printer cable supplied by Radio Shack, go directly to
Appendix E for more information. (Do not pass GO. Do not collect $200.) If you
are using a TRS-80 Model II, go directly to Appendix F.
If you are using an Apple, Pet or S-100 buss computer, go directly to Appendix
D. Instructions for correct switch settings for these and other popular computers
are included with the EPSON cables and interface kits designed especially to
connect them to the MX-80. A complete description of what each switch does is
found in Appendix C (for those who simply can't wait to find out). The rest of us
will continue on.
