Pretty impressive. Just like they do it in the big city! The letters BY in line 30
are COMPRESSED to 132 per line. CHR$(15) caused it. The usual spacing is
80 Characters Per Line (80 CPL), or 10 characters to the inch.
In the DOUBLE WIDTH mode, we can print either 40 or 66 characters per
line, depending on whether we are in COMPRESSED character or NORMAL
mode. Since we are in COMPRESSED, the word EPSON was printed
DOUBLE WIDTH/COMPRESSED, 66CPL. CHR$(14) is the reason.
STOP now and think this idea through! It's really very easy, even if some of
the words are similar. Like having a normal and an overdrive, it doubles our
options.
Comparing Our Options:
NORMAL WIDTH
=
80 CPL
NORMAL WIDTH/COMPRESSED
= 132 CPL
DOUBLE WIDTH
=
40 CPL
DOUBLE WIDTH/COMPRESSED
=
66 CPL
DOUBLE STRIKE - Unrelated to the above.
Pretty simple when laid out this way, right?
In addition, the print head did its thing twice, caused by CHR$(27)CHR$(71) =
ESCAPE " G " . In fact, it was so impressive, lets RUN it again. (C'mon, do it!
Stay with the program.)
