(3) Measuring clearance between groove and piston
ring
Put a new piston ring in the groove. Measure the
clearance between the groove and piston ring
with a straight edge and feeler gages as shown in
the illustration. If the clearance exceeds the
service limit; replace the piston.

(4) Measuring clearance between piston pin and bare
Measure the inside diameter of the piston pin bare
and the diameter of the pin as shown in the
illustration to check the clearance between the
piston and pin. If the clearance exceeds the
service limit, replace the pin or piston whichever
is excessively wom.
