COOLING SYSTEM
3. Thermostat
Inspeetion
(1)
Remove the thermostat from the engine.
(2) Hang the thermostat in the jar of water, as shown
in the illustration. Thermostat must be below the
surface of the water and it must be away from
the sides of the jar,
(3) Heat the water uniformly in the jar and measure
a temperature at which the valve starts opening
and a temperature at which the valve lift is more
than 8 mm [0.3 in.]. If the valve does not start
opening at the correct temperature, or if it does
not open to correct lift, replace the thermostat.

Temperature at which valve
90°C [194°P]
lift is more than 8 mm [0.3 in.]

a) Stir the water in the jar with a stick to
maintain its temperature uniform during test.
b) Install the thermostat with its air vent hole
up.
