⑤ Measure the rocker arm hole diameter and rocker arm shaft diameter, and calculate the fitting
clearance.
4.5.3.4 Rocker Arm and Rocker Arm Shaft Assembly Procedures
① Check and ensure that the parts assembled are clean without knocking damage, scratch, or rust.
② Assemble the rocker adjustment screws and nuts, rotate the screws to the end, and tighten the
nuts for 2~3 pitches.
③ Apply an appropriate amount of lubricating oil to the rocker seats and rocker bores and
assemble the butterfly spring washers, rocker assemblies, butterfly spring washers, and shaft
circlips onto the rocker seats in turn.
④ After assembly, loosely assemble the rocker seats to the cylinder head by hexagon head bolts.
⑤ Assemble the valve push rods. Refer to the assembling procedure of valve push rods for details.
⑥ Assemble and pre-tighten the rocker seat parts, align the concaves of rocker adjustment screws
with spherical ends of valve push rods, and tighten the hexagon head bolts to 40~45N.m.
Check and adjust the clearances of intake and exhaust valves:
① Turn the crankshaft in such manner that the phase pointer is aligned with the zero-point of
phase plate and observe the engagement between zero-points of crankshaft timing gear and
camshaft gear. In such case, adjust the rockers 1-2-3-6 (counted from front end) to adjust the
clearances of intake valves: Insert a 0.2mm feeler gauge and tighten the nuts by a torque
wrench to 20±5N.m. After the adjustment, the feeler gauge shall be capable of being withdrawn
naturally by hand touch. Then, inspect by a 0.25mm feeler gauge and ensure that this feeler
gauge can't insert smoothly. Adjust the exhaust valves: Insert a 0.3mm feeler gauge and tighten
the nuts by a torque wrench to 20±5N.m. After the adjustment, the feeler gauge shall be capable
of being withdrawn naturally by hand touch. Then, inspect by a 0.35mm feeler gauge and
ensure that this feeler gauge can't insert smoothly.
② Re-turn the crankshaft in such manner that the phase pointer is aligned with zero-point of phase
plate and observe that the zero-point of crankshaft timing gear engages with the 180º point of
zero-point of camshaft gear. In such case, adjust the rockers 4-5-7-8 (counted from front end) to
adjust the clearances of valves by same method of ①.
